Daytime Drinking Review: Shells Seafood Bar

Shells Seafood is a bar and restaurant located at Gulf Blvd and 71st street in St Pete Beach. I'm just going to talk about the bar, and I'll admit—I'm very biased when it comes to their bar.

It's a short walk from the beach, they have $3.50 rum runners, and it's practically a ghost town in there on weekdays (at least when I go in there at…ohhh let's just say early afternoon). You're probably judging me right about now, and if I were you I'd probably do the same...

Do not fall for this! It's a trap!

Anyways let's put on our judgmental, slightly bitchy facade and examine this supposedly fine dining establishment…

….Ambiance

The decor is definitely trying to cater to old people who haven't yet ditched their old drinking days and vacationers who just got back from the beach.

The two plasma screens facing you at the bar atop shelves of bacardi and rum show news that would make anyone want to drink—Fox News: Protesters Burn US Flag—Bay News 9: Not My Son. The latter absolutely made no sense to me, but I digress.

The walls were decorated with various tacky Bud Lite and Corona neon signs. Even a mirror facing opposite of the bar above a table had written on it in blue font Corona. So, if you're a person who has enough nerve to preen themselves in front of a group of people eating, then just know your face may be partially obscured by the C and O. So it's probably not worth it.

….Service

Well, to be completely honest with you it would be quite hard for a bartender to give lousy service when they only have one patron. But, I'll review it anyway. Every girl I have met there has been super sweet and slightly awkward—but aren't all young adults that way? They also seem like the type of people you can engage in one of the big long life stories and they'll more or less give a shit about it. Or at least act convincingly enough.

….Alcohol

You'll find the same prices here as you'd expect most other beach bars around St. Pete. They've got a blender to serve you up some frozen margaritas (always a plus in my book), and all drink names are incredibly generic: blue lagoon, beach bum. Not that it matters, but still!

….Put Honestly

I'll be going to this bar for the rest of my life here at St. Pete. I guarantee it :-)
